Unable to get Remote Desktop client in full screen mode
Computers October 23rd, 2008This morning, I had a problem with the remote desktop client. The problem – I could not get the remote desktop client window to go in full screen mode. It would maximize to a window size smaller than my monitor. I restarted both the machines – no use. Then digging through the internet, I finally figured it out. The solution – pressing Ctrl+Alt+Break while in the remote desktop client.
Another piece of advice for remote desktop sessions, to restart your remote machine type shutdown /r at the command prompt.

Also after doing that, make sure the resolution in your display settings for your remote desktop connection match the display settings for the monitor you are using.
To check the settings for your RD, before clicking “connect” to log into your RD, click ‘Options’, then ‘Display’. Be sure the pixels match your monitors display settings (eg. 1280 by 800 pixels, 800 by 600 pixels, etc.).
To check your monitor’s display settings (at least with Windows Vista) right click your background, click ‘Personalize’, then ‘Display Settings’ and it will show what your resolution is set at which you should be able to adjust if necessary.

Open Remote Desktop connection and before click on “Connect”, click on “Options” ==> Display tab ==> Slide the bar for Remote Desktop size all the way to the right which will result in “Full Screen” mode no matter what screen resolution you have.

Anyone got any suggestions, I used to use ctrl-alt-break to toggle fullscreen, now my new laptop doesn’t have a break key!
Can start the session fullscreen but coming out and going back in will only “maximise” the window rather than fullscreening it!

That’s a great tip, and it’s even better when shown in context of the other special keyboard commands needed in Remote Desktop Client Connections:
————————-
If the deskop taskbar and icons do not display, and all you see is a blank desktop, you will need to run Windows Explorer to turn on your desktop.
Press CTRL+ALT+END (this is the equivalent of CTRL+ALT+DEL when using Remote Desktop).
File > New Task Run > explorer [Enter]
————————-
If you need to restart your work computer:
Start > Run > cmd [Enter] > shutdown -r -t 0
If that does not work, stop all running applications and try it again.
If it still does not work, use the force switch:
Start > Run > cmd [Enter] > shutdown -r -t 0 -f
————————-
If you want to Maximize Full Screen
Remote Desktop Connection popup > Display > Size: slide all the way to the right towards More
or Press CTRL+ALT+BREAK
————————-
If you are in full-screen mode and you set the top yellow Window Bar to AutoHide and want to Task Switch back to your local Desktop
Press CTRL+ALT+BREAK
